Finished Student's Examples
5th graders will be starting out making a pinch pot bowl then changing it into the animal of their choice.
Students will use the Scratch and Attach method to make sure the clay stays connected.
Once they have completed making their animal out of clay, I bisque fire the animal after I let them dry for about a week.
When they get their animals back, we glaze! Students may choose 3 glaze colors plus black and white for the eyes.

This lesson uses the least amount of materials using only paper and sharpie pen but my 3rd graders really enjoy making these robots! The reason why they love them so much is that their robot can look however they want, they just need to practice creating value using a pen.

I pass out a handout that shows 4 different examples of creating value. Next to the definition are 4 examples of how to use the value technique and how it changes when the lines/dots get closer together.
Value is the lightness and darkness of a color
The students mush use all 4 of the techniques in their robot drawing to show value.
