Welcome Back! The beginning of the year has just flown by! The 3rd graders started off the year celebrating International Dot Day which came from the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. For this art lesson, students created 2 dots, drawing lines, shapes and patterns with Sharpie. We talked about colors and students would have one dot with Warm Colors and one with Cool Colors. When students finished their dots, I collected them to be glued all together in ONE GIANT DOT! 8 Displays from 8 Classes!

Getting ready for the year is always a fun and busy time. I enjoy coming up with new ideas and using ideas, mainly found on Pinterest. This year I've hung up some of my own artwork (seen on the left) to show my students that I not only teach art, but I make it too! I've also done some updating on my behavior chart and art room jobs poster. Examples of those will be here soon!
The 4th Graders had been working on Name Tangles and some classes missed their art time because of Rock Jogger. (school wide fitness program) Because of this, some of my 4th graders finished early and some were behind. Those students that finished early helped me create this artwork. It's really easy, keeps the students busy and it adds new art to the school. It is rolled magazines that are glued onto a piece of cardboard. I separated them by color to make it more interesting. The 3rd graders started out the year by working together to create giant masterpieces. In Media, they watched the video created about the book, The Dot by Peter Reynolds. First, students used black paint to create all of the "dots" The next day we learned how to mix colors with white to make TINTS and painted inside of the the dots. The last day we learned how to make SHADES by mixing black with a color and painted in the rest of the dots and the surrounding area. They turned out amazing! A total of 21 masterpieces that now hang proudly in our hallways. Well, it's only taken me a month to finally have time to post some images and lessons but I had to start sometime! Since I got married this summer, I had to change out some things in my classroom that had my maiden name on them (Dahlgren) to my married name, Peroddy. Peroddy rhymes with Karate, that's what I tell my students! I decided to revamp my whole bulletin board. The art room rules - they spell out the word A.R.T. A "What to do Next" poster, so kids have options if they finish early and know what to do. I also have a "Mrs. Peroddy's Favorite Things" poster so students can learn more about me when lining up. I also have created an Art Room Jobs chart to manage clean up in the art room. I have 7 table in my room, each with a different color. Each month, each table has a job whether it's washing tables or collecting portfolios. I am liking this clean up procedure better than just have each table clean up their space. They each have a job to do and have to work together as an entire class to make it work. Art Marks on the Art Chart so we stay Art Smart! I keep track of how the days go in art for each class. Each class works together to earn rewards for each Trimester. Green is a Good Day. Yellow is an Okay Day. Red is a Not Good Day.
The art teachers of Becker got together and each chose 2 pieces of art created by students. These 8 pieces of art are hanging in the district office to show the amazing artistic ability in Becker. In the intermediate building the three artists are 5th grader, Naomi B., 4th grader, Kevin Z and 3rd grader, Jazalynn P! Jazalynn created her artwork last year that hangs in the district office but now she's a 3rd grader so that makes her an intermediate student! Congratulations to the three of you and your outstanding art! |
