In 4th grade, we learn about Russian Architecture - Onion Domes! We looked at cathedrals in Russia, especially St. Basil's Cathedral. I pass out a step-by-step handout (shown below) and we start by drawing on paper with a pencil. Students must overlap their architecture to show space and draw at least 2 details around their building to tell a story. Once finished, students will place wax paper under their pencil drawing and under the wax paper they place a special type of paper. So they are making a wax paper sandwich. They redraw everything, it transfers onto the wax then onto the special paper and leaves a wax drawing on the special paper. Then we're able to paint the special paper and there will be a white drawing left where the paint will not go. This wax paper and the special paper is from a package called Bateek-O. |
